Frequently Asked Questions

Who are we?

sunmoutain.png

We are an inter-faith, inter-professional partnership of two women in healthcare who come from different spiritual backgrounds, life experiences, and clinical training and care deeply about supporting women in healthcare. We have navigated our own experiences with moral distress and moral injury in healthcare and seek to find ways to build disruptive spaces for women to reflect, dream, and imagine a new version of healthcare. Please feel to read more about us in our About Us section!

Why do we care about introspection and reflection?

Introspection and reflection are the root of self-awareness and authenticity. Without grounding in who we are, it is easy to find ourselves on paths that we didn’t intend to be on. Knowing who we are and what we value empowers each of us to build lives and make decisions that reflect what really matters to us. We believe the way to identify our values is to take the time to reflect and process our experiences, ask ourselves hard questions, and have a community that reminds us of who we are and who we seek to be. In the world of medicine, there are often preset ideas of what it means to be successful. We hope to question this assumption and to challenge our participants to redefine success within their values.

Why do we have a solidarity and inclusivity statement?

We strongly believe in the pursuit of justice and in valuing people over profit. Our solidarity and inclusivity statement is designed to more explicitly outline our commitment to anti-racism and equity as we continue to learn and grow in our personal and professional journeys.

What is our commitment to inclusivity?

We acknowledge that the healthcare system was created for, and defined by, the white male experience.  Healthcare has traditionally marginalized individuals who do not identify as white and male, with non-cisgender persons, particularly those of color, facing the worst consequences of that otherization.

We name our commitment to creating inclusive spaces and to calling out heteronormativity and cisnormativity in medicine. Our event is open to anyone who self-identifies as a member of this group, including transwomen, two-spirit individuals, non-binary persons, genderqueer persons, and all marginalized gender identities as well as cis-women. We also name that medicine is a space that is ableist and is unwelcoming to those who have disabilities. We commit to doing our best to make accommodations to ensure our event is accessible to all interested participants. We are looking forward to working with our community to continue to adapt our space and appreciate your feedback!

Why did we choose this specific model of pricing? What is the policy on refunds?

We strongly believe in compensating people for their time and expertise. We chose this pricing model to ensure we adequately compensate all of those who have helped us develop this event as well as build sustainability into our programming. We chose a tiered model to allow participants to pay whatever feels most comfortable to them within their budgetary constraints. We do not want price to be a limiting factor for anyone and are happy to work with anyone further who is interested in attending. We offer Jubilee admission to subsidize the trainee fee as well as make funds available for those excluded by financial constraints. We are thankful to each attendee who co-creates an equitable community together through sponsorship. Please email us at introspectivespaces@gmail.com and we are happy to help if more financial assistance is required.

Given the nature and structure of this virtual event, please email us at least one week in advance if a refund is required. We unfortunately will not be able to offer refunds within 7 days of an event unless there are extenuating circumstances. Please contact us with any questions.

What is the best way to contact us and give us feedback?

Please feel free to email us at hello@introspectivespaces.com with any questions, concerns, or feedback.
