Are you a healthcare worker who loves to read?
Do you radically believe that healthcare can be rooted in community, compassion, and justice?
Are you longing to connect with other healthcare workers who dream of humanizing healthcare?
This is the reading community for you! Coming January 2026!
The Kindred Spirits (in Healthcare) book club is a membership-style book club focused on building communities of care in healthcare
Each month, we will read a book that inspires us and discuss it in a virtual or asynchronous format
Our dream is to create communal space rooted in:
healing from moral distress
building community across disciplines
cultivating healthier relationship with our healthcare roles
practicing community care
celebrating the joy that comes from reading with others who also LOVE books
This is an invitation to:
Join a community of healthcare workers who love to read and are interested in exploring the intersections of healthcare, contemplation & justice through books!
Each quarter, we will select a book to read together.
The book club will take place on a membership platform, where participants will have the opportunity to engage with healthcare workers across the country.
Each month you will receive:
Book summaries, reflection questions, and artistic prompts inspired by the book we are reading
Monthly virtual discussion group to share thoughts and reflections. You can choose a “regional” discussion based on your location.
An asynchronous community chat for folks to connect in between the discussion groups and share book recommendations!
“Books are a form of political action. Books are knowledge. Books are reflection. Books change your mind.” ― Toni Morrison
The Kindred Spirits (in Healthcare) Book Club is a book club for and by healthcare workers & mental health professionals.
Here’s the breakdown:
Each quarter, we will pick a new book to read together as a community over the next three months.
Every month, members receive book summaries, reflection questions, and artistic prompts about the book, and this book relates to our identity as healthcare workers
Every month, we will have a virtual meeting to discuss the book.
In the spirit of building communities of care where people live, members will have a chance to join a “regional” cohort for the book club based on where they live (e.g. West Coast, East Coast). As our community groups, we hope to have a regional hub in every city with the dream of folks meeting up in person to discuss books!

Virtual Meetings
Each month, we will host virtual book club discussions organized by “regional hubs” (e.g. West Coast/East Coast). These virtual book club discussions are meant to be a chance for book club members to connect with each other, share their reflections about the book.
Can’t join the same group every month? No stress! You are welcome to choose a group based on your schedule!
Asychronous Connection
We will have a virtual community space on Mighty Networks where members can connect throughout the month. We will post book summaries, journal prompts, and artistic exercises that you can reflect on in between virtual sessions. Ther will also be a community chat to share your reflections throughout the month!
“Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign. But stories can also be used to empower, and to humanize. Stories can break the dignity of a people. But stories can also repair that broken dignity.” ― Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
We believe that building community with kindred spirits in healthcare is not a luxury - it is an essential part of finding sustainability within our broken healthcare system.
